[Khmer Times]: Chea Serey, Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia, has urged Cambodian citizens to use the riel more, making it easier for the National Bank to intervene and resolve any problems that arise, and encouraged vendors to post QR Codes for both riel and dollars for customers to scan to make payments.
Speaking at the official launch of the second phase of cross-border payments via QR code between Cambodia and Singapore on Monday, she highlighted that the National Bank is promoting the use of riel more in the country because the bank issues it and can be controlled at all times.
Therefore, when there is a problem, the bank can immediately provide solutions, unlike using dollars, which the bank does not control and affects the riel due to currency fluctuations.
She added that “Using dollars is easy when there is no problem, but when there is a currency fluctuation, it is not easy for the bank to control. The bank uses fiscal measures to resolve the situation, but if the money is in dollars, we have a reduced ability to resolve the issue.”
