NBC Denies Rumors of Bank Fund Freezes, Warns Against False Information on Social Media

The National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) on April 14 rejected rumors circulating on social media that it had frozen funds held by certain banks or revoked banking licenses, warning that the false information could spark instability in the country’s financial system.

In a statement, the central bank said claims shared by some Facebook and Telegram users were without clear sources and appeared designed to incite public fear and encourage people to withdraw money from banks.

“This information is not true, causing chaos, with the intention to create instability in the banking system and may cause serious chaos to national security,” the NBC said.
